The "Eee PC" was one of the original netbooks to arrive on the market a couple of years ago, and though other manufacturers have since joined the bandwagon, Asus still leads the way with the "1001P". Despite measuring only 10 inches across the diagonal, the 1024 x 600 widescreen is perfectly readable and the keyboard more than comfortable to type on, whether for brief emails or longer stints of word processing, although the trackpad may feel awkward and cramped for those unused to one. The chassis feels sturdy and well-built, but at the same time is incredibly stylish, with a matte white finish that wont show fingermarks, embossed with the Asus logo in silver. A microphone and a 0.3 megapixel webcam are integrated, and though the latter may not be the finest video-capture device in the world (particularly in low light conditions), it is serviceable. There are also three USB ports - one on the left, two on the right - and an SD card reader for transferring data, plus wireless connectivity and an Ethernet port for connection to a network. Battery life is exceptional - streets ahead of its rivals - allowing the user to spend several hours at a time without having to plug it in, and the recharge rate is impressive too.
